Anyone else out there tired of living in such a disposable society? Are you wanting to try to live a more natural life? Let’s hit the reset button and get back to the basics! We are living in a world full of chemicals, pollution, global warming, and illnesses. Let’s all try to do our part to lighten our toxin loads and treat our earth and our bodies with a little more respect.

I’ve compiled a list of items that will help you live a more natural lifestyle. Any one or all of them would be a great first step towards reducing toxins and waste in your life.

Here are a few of my favourites. Simply click the title for more info or to order them.

Wool Dryer Balls – Natural Fabric Softener

Wool Dryer Balls are an all-natural, healthy, chemical-free, organic alternative to toxic, liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets. They are eco-friendly, save energy, reduce appliance usage and electricity bills by shortening drying time up to 25%. They are re-usable,  reduce wrinkles, lint and the need to iron your laundry. These are especially great when drying baby clothes. Babies have sensitive skin and we aren’t “supposed” to use fabric softener on their clothes. I use these dryer balls on my daughter’s clothes and they are always soft and wrinkle free.

Live Clean Fresh Water Hydrating Shampoo

I am a huge supporter of Live Clean! I use the shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturizer and baby products.  They are 98% plant derived, SLS / Sulfate and paraben free, petroleum, phthalate and phosphate free. They never test on animals, the packaging is recyclable, the ingredients are biodegradable. AND unlike most products that boast similar qualities, Live Clean products are shockingly affordable.

The Diva Cup

The DivaCup is a reusable,  menstrual cup that eliminates the need to purchase disposable feminine hygiene products. I’ve heard of woman who have had the same Diva Cup for nearly a decade! It really will save you money over the long run. Not to mention all the waste the disposable items create is a big impact on our environment. You can wear The DivaCup for up to 12 hours without leaks or worry, so it’s also a safer, healthier option than tampons. Baby Boo Bamboo Wipes

I love these wipes. They smell amazing and are so soft. They are made from natural, organic, eco-friendly, 100 percent unbleached, bamboo cloth.  What I love best? These wipes naturally biodegrade after use in 3 to 4 weeks! If you are like me and still have a baby/toddler in the house, consider using biodegradable baby products. Do you know that in Canada alone, 1 million diapers end up in landfills every day. EVERY. DAY. Yeah…after I heard that stat we started doing a combo of cloth diapers through the day and disposables at night. We’ve saved a small fortune on disposable diapers since then.

How often do you use a ziploc baggie for something simple, like taking a handful of crackers to work? Only to throw that baggie away a few hours later (even though it’s really not dirty). That plastic adds up. And those ziploc bags aren’t cheap! These little zipper bags are the perfect solution. They are washable and can be used over and over. Saving the earth from more plastic waste, and your wallet from the never ending need for lunch/snack bags.

No one likes to do it. Or talk about it. But if you have a dog, the responsible thing to do is pick up after it in public places. Any of you dog walkers out there feel guilty every time you throw a used plastic bag in the trash? These little guys are eco-friendly and practical.  Now you can pick up after your pet and, at the same time, look after the environment, with these biodegradable waste bags. They are primarily constructed from corn starch and environmentally friendly polymers. Which means no toxic residues after they decompose.

Natural Bamboo Toothbrushes

Keep all those plastic toothbrushes out of the oceans and landfills. These bamboo toothbrushes are a great way to help keep the earth green. A 4 pack will last one person a full year. The bristles are soft, BPA free, and made from high quality nylon. The packaging is plastic free and totally recyclable.

Makeup Remover Magic Cloth

Enjoy an all over, deep clean with this face cloth and ditch the disposable make up wipes.  Experience smoother skin with a healthier glow thanks to the deep pore clean you’ll get with these machine washable, absorptive cloths that preserves your beauty. These little exfoliating cloths require NO chemicals to remove makeup. Just add water and go. Even waterproof mascara! So why continuously buy disposable makeup removing pads/wipes? These guys can be used up to 1000 times without needing to be replaced!

Greenlid Compostable Compost Bin – Starter Kit

Since starting to compost, I am having to empty my garbage SO much less. Which means my household is contributing to our landfills less, we are not paying for as many bag tags (we pay $3/per bag of garbage here in Ontario), and we’re also needing to purchase fewer plastic garbage bags. If you’ve never tried composting, this is a great way to start. Greenlid is the world’s first fully compostable food waste container for your kitchen. Just fill it, and compost the entire container in your backyard compost or place it in your curbside municipal collection bin. Made in Canada from end-of-Life cardboard, 100% biobased.

The New 50 Simple Things Kids Can Do to Save the Earth

And finally, I’ll end with this awesome book. It helps kids go from aware to active with simple (but inspiring) projects, tips, and little-known facts that puts a kid’s own carbon footprint into perspective. What makes this book stand out,  is that it doesn’t just inform kids, it encourages them to make a difference by providing them, their friends and their families the tools to take action.

So there you have it. 10 affordable items to get you on the path to a healthy, more natural lifestyle. I hope they inspire you to do your part for our environment and our kid’s future. And hey, since so many of them are re-usable, they’ll save you money too! Bonus!
Christmas is coming…why not share this post with family and friends when they ask for gift ideas? You may inspire a few to join you!
